The Bible You’ve Never Heard About

Most people don’t realize there’s a version of the Bible that’s older and more complete than what we read today.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Bible—often called the Ethiopic Bible—contains 88 books, compared to the standard 66 found in most modern Bibles.

It includes sacred writings that have been removed, forgotten, or hidden from Western translations, including the Book of Enoch, Jubilees, 1 & 2 Meqabyan, and others rarely discussed in traditional churches.

Why Were These Books Removed?

Throughout history, church leaders and councils made decisions about which writings would appear in the “official” Bible.
Many of the Ethiopian texts were excluded during the process of canonization because they were considered too mystical, too detailed about heaven and angels, or too challenging to interpret.

Yet, the Ethiopian Church—one of the earliest Christian communities in the world—preserved these writings faithfully.
They believed these scriptures held divine wisdom, historical truth, and messages meant for every generation.

The Lost Books of the Bible

Some of the texts found only in the Ethiopian Bible include:

๐Ÿ“– The Book of Enoch — Describes the Watchers (fallen angels), the origins of evil, and prophecies of the Messiah.

๐Ÿ“œ The Book of Jubilees — A retelling of Genesis and Exodus with detailed timelines and angelic revelations.

๐Ÿ•Š️ 1, 2, and 3 Meqabyan (Maccabees) — Different from the Catholic versions, these books focus on faith, perseverance, and spiritual warfare.

๐ŸŒ The Book of the Covenant and Didascalia — Ancient teachings about early Christian leadership and conduct.

These texts offer incredible insights into how early believers understood God’s kingdom, human purpose, and spiritual warfare.

Hidden Wisdom Preserved in Ethiopia

Ethiopia has a long and sacred relationship with Scripture.
It’s the first nation to adopt Christianity officially (around 330 A.D.), and it remains home to ancient monasteries where priests still hand-copy sacred manuscripts in the Ge’ez language.

For centuries, these texts were protected from wars, colonization, and revision, giving us a direct window into what early Christians believed and how they practiced their faith.

What the Lost Books Teach Us

Many of these writings emphasize themes still relevant today:

  • The importance of righteousness and humility.

  • The coming judgment and the hope of eternal life.

  • The power of angels, prophecy, and divine order.

  • God’s plan for humanity through generations.

While some of these books are not part of the modern biblical canon, they invite us to seek truth more deeply, to ask questions, and to strengthen our understanding of God’s Word.
